What Does Online Driver Education Cover?
Drive Smart Driving School provides the state-required 32 hours of driver education in a fun, interactive online course, featuring the most up-to-date information on Texas traffic laws and regulations. We also offer study guides, free practice tests, and informative videos. The 32-hour course is divided into twelve manageable units covering various topics, including driving safety, traffic laws, defensive driving, road rules, and much more. Each unit concludes with a multiple-choice quiz to reinforce learning.
Students take The Official State of Texas Driving Knowledge Test during our 46-hour course after completing Unit 1. The course includes free practice tests so teens can easily pass The Official State of Texas Driving Knowledge Test. Upon passing, students receive their Driver Education Completion Certificate for the First Six Hours of Driver Education (DE-964) immediately, enabling them to apply for their Texas Learner License.
The state-required 14 hours of parent-taught behind-the-wheel lessons commence after a student obtains their Texas Learner License. These lessons include detailed instructions and lesson guides for the parent-instructor. Parents must apply to become authorized parent-instructors on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) website, which involves a quick and easy online registration costing $20. After registration, the parent-instructor receives a TDLR Parent-Taught Program Guide via email.
The Driver Education Completion Certificate (DE-964) is emailed to the student upon completion of all driver education units and behind-the-wheel lessons and assessments. At this point, students can apply for their Texas Provisional Driver License to begin driving independently, provided they have fulfilled all requirements. These requirements include being at least 16 years old, holding a Texas Learner License for a minimum of six months, completing a minimum of 30 additional hours of adult-supervised driving during the day, and completing a minimum of 10 additional hours of adult-supervised driving at night.
